Hueuristics
I’ve been trying to write a set of heuristics complied from a number of sources. I don’t think they are complete yet but quite happy with the it so far.
Consistency and standards
Are common elements positioned in a consistent way?
Do the interaction elements look and behave consistently?
Is the site consistent in the way language is used?
Does the site behave in a way that conforms to user expectations/learning?
Does the site use common web conventions or patterns?
Clarity
Does the site use language that is easily understood?
Is information easy to find?
Is the content structured and prioritised in a logical way?
Is the text have sufficient easy to read?
Are labels and links contextual and meaningful?
Simplicity
Is the process of completing a task simple and effective?
Is the layout of the pages with in the site uncluttered?
Do the pages with in the site prioritise the options for completing a task?
Does the site adhere to Hicks law?
Is the site optimised for the most common tasks?
Orientation
Does the site give clear indications of where the user is and where they can go?
Do the pages with in the site give a clear indication of what is on the page?
Does the site provide appropriate feedback messages?
Does the site give indications on what the site is about?
Does the site retain information rather then requiring the user to remember/renter the information?
Error prevention and recovery
Does the site provide appropriate instructional/Help messages?
Does the system enable the user to undo actions or back out of a process?
Are the error messages contextual and written in simple language?
Is the site designed to minimise errors occurring?
Latency reduction: does the site give indication that something is being processed?
Pleasure
Is the site aesthetically pleasing?
Does the site treat the user with respect?
Does the site reflect brand identity?
